Ex-Darkness frontman announces new band.
Q After two years of sobriety former Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins has returned to the spotlight with his new band Hot Leg.
Says Hawkins: "I'm really excited about Hot Leg. The whole atmosphere in the band is really positive. Everyone's great and having fun with it."
Hot Leg, who recently completed a short UK tour, will release their first single Trojan Guitar in October, to be accompanied by further dates. A second single will be available in December, followed by an album and a major tour in January 2009.
All Hot Leg releases will appear on Hawkins's own Barbecue Rock label.
Joining Hawkins in 1-lot Leg are guitarist Pete Rinaldi, bassist Sam Stokes and drummer Darby Todd.
"We were going to do it as a three-piece initially, go for the Nirvana vibe, but then we thought we'd get a proper guitarist on board," says I Iawkins.
"Pete auditioned and the first thing he played was Hot For Teacher Oil a has Paul. Immediately we were Van Haien. Pete's also on the same page as me with regard to all the silliness and stuff."
Hawkins describes Hot Leg as a "more intense" version of The Darkness.
"We're certainly going to divide people — and that's not a bad thing, really," he adds.
With regard to Hot Leg's moniker, Hawkins explains: "The hot leg is part of a nuclear reactor, so that's one explanation. 1 decided to make the name singular rather than plural because it sounds better, more punchy. Also people can call us The Leg for short."
