Sony/BMG

Early British blues in a nutshell. PR-tagged ‘The Definitive History of The UK’s Most Influential Blues Label’, this three-CD, 70-track first volume suggests the complete set will indeed be that. Blue Horizon was the first home to a Who’s Who of British blues artists of the time, and in the 1965-1970 period it nurtured many who later went on to critical and/or commercial success. Chicken Shack ( I’d Rather Go Blind, Tears In The Wind ), Fleetwood Mac ( Need Your Love So Bad, Black Magic Woman ) and John Mayall & Eric Clapton ( Lonely Years, Bernard Jenkins ) are some of the better-known artists alongside the likes of Champion Jack Dupree, Otis Rush and Duster Bennett in this thoughtfully and knowledgably compiled (by label founder Mike Vernon), collection that covers many of the important chapters in the history of blues in Britain.
