Inside Out

Dutch guitarist Arjen Lucassen is best known for the string of Ayreon concept albums he has recorded with increasingly all-star casts. For a contrast he took something of a chance in assembling a multinational band of comparative unknowns under the Stream Of Passion banner last year. But while reproducing the Ayreon sound live has proved a challenge Lucassen has seldom chosen to confront, by contrast the more concise Stream Of Passion material, recorded with a settled six piece line-up, lends itself far more readily to a tour. Late last year Stream Of Passion hit the road in Europe, rounded out by a second female vocalist, and this double live CD and DVD is the result. Stream Of Passion’s gothic-tinged prog-metal works beautifully live, with Marcela Bovio proving to a beguiling vocalist.

Lucassen takes the opportunity to throw in a handful of Ayreon and Star One tracks, plus there’s a rollicking version of Led Zep’s When The Levee Breaks.
