It's A Treat To Be Alive

Demo ii/ion

Quireboys drinker can still sing with the best of them.

Spike knows exactly who he is: an A-list talent with a Dlist reputation, but he eschews self-pity. That this opens with a song called Have A Drink With Me reinforces the stereotype but the lyric is knowingly defiant.

In the bluesy and plainly autobiographical I'm In Love With You and True Friends (with a fa b Likely Lads refrain) he wears his heart on his sleeve. In the Hammond organ-laden Rise Above and Lady& Her Daughter he rocks out in fine fashion. Backed by fellow QBs plus Paul Guerin (guitar throughout), Bad Company's Dave Colwell and current Thin Lizzy drummer Michael Lee, he delivers top-notch covers of Be Good To Yourself (Frankie Miller) and Everyday (Slade), and proves no reputation can overshadow his talent. •••••••
