It’s not always been an easy ride for this engaging British trio – their excellent self-titled debut didn’t get the attention it derserved due to their record company being bought out, and the UK is notoriously reluctant to embrace new talent such as theirs. But Amplifier have persevered on to album No.2, and find themselves in a far stronger position.
Insider might not be as immediate as its predecessor, but in time it proves a stronger all-round listen, marrying the musical surety of Rush with the grit and determination of Tool. Sometimes, as on the discordant mistake that is RIP , Amplifier miss the target. Mostly however, their muscular prog metal hits the bullseye with ease.
