With reference to the review of Thin Lizzy at London’s Astoria in the August issue, how can James Halbert describe John Sykes as being “too metal” for the band? What a load of nonsense! After all, Sykes was the last guitar player that Phil Lynott ever recruited – and I think Phil knew a bit about what sort of guy Lizzy needed.
So what about a long-overdue feature on John Sykes, a real Classic Rock-style guitar player? If you can’t feature Sykes, at least let’s have a bit less Elton John, Marilyn Manson and Type O Negative. Call these classic rock? I don’t bloody think so!
