'The Very Best Of Prince'

(Warner Bros 8122 74272-2)

Although not as exhaustive as 1993's double 'Hits' package, 'The Very Best Of...' is a concise presentation of the purple one at his commercial best. From the heavy guitar of 'Let's Go Crazy' and the bluesy harmonica of 'Thieves In The Temple', to the grandiose glory of 'Purple Rain', Prince excels vocally, musically and in sheer songwriting terms.

With any artist, especially one as prolific as Prince, the only way you'll get a Very Best Of that fulfils your personal remit is to spend some time with the back catalogue and a CD burner.

So for those with better things to do with their time, this is just the job. ***** Sian Llewellyn
