BECOMING ALMOST FAMOUS Ben Fong-Torres
From page 80 of Classic Rock Magazine November 2006
Backbeat
Like a Rolling Stone .
Affectionately lampooned in Cameron Crowe’s autobiographical movie Almost Famous as his editor at Rolling Stone , Ben Fong-Torres asserts his own credentials with this collection of articles from back when he was in the thick of it during the 60s and 70s. There’s also some more recent pieces on people like Sheryl Crow, showing he hasn’t lost his knack, and an unexpected and moving piece about his murdered brother.
In fact this is the second volume of his greatest literary hits, something he reminds you of so frequently that this book starts to feel like sloppy seconds. Not that his own prose ever descends to that level, even when he’s writing about the groupie scene.
