CHRIS REA The Road To Hell And Back Again

Bland leader’s live swansong. There really isn’t too much to say about Chris Rea’s “first and last” live album other than that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. Recorded on his farewell tour of Europe earlier this year, it has Rea effortlessly reproducing his studio effortlessness, whispering on about old cars and old
school friends in the gaps between guitar lines pitched somewhere between Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler. His occasional happy interactions with commercial success (the title track, Fool If You Think It’s Over ) add to the comfort factor, and Rea is too old a hand to bother with anything else now. Inconsequential in the nicest possible way.
