Power And Passion BGO
Last chance to hear the band of brothers as a three-piece.
Released in 1985, this was the McManus brothers’ fourth album and their last as a trio – Pat (guitar/fiddle), John (bass/vocals) and Tommy (drums). The lads were in their prime, having played US dates with Ratt and in European with the Scorpions and Thin Lizzy on their farewell tour.
The experience gained lifts the material here – including re-recorded versions of Straight Forward and Needle In The Groove – above the sometimes naïve charm of their earlier studio records and has something of the power of their live shows.
From the bonkers artwork to the (excellent) Def Leppard soundalikes Run and Let’s Get High, it’s very much an album of its time, but there are suggestions of a stronger career had Tommy lived.
