Worthwhile cause let down by poorly recorded charity bash.

Hoping For Palestine (a fairly self-explanatory children’s charity) held a fund raiser at London’s Brixton Academy last year, and now here’s the DVD of that event to raise more cash for the cause.

Despite there being an immaculate line-up here, the first two acts (Beta Band’s Steve Mason, and Nick Cave) are next to unwatchable due to the crazy decision to record through a DAT recorder rather than through the mixing desk, resulting in sound levels being violently off kilter and with a background layer of audience noise audible on everything.

Luckily these ‘difficulties’ are ironed out for Spriritualized’s set, and their I Think I’m In Love is arguably one of the greatest live songs by anyone, ever. And then the sound levels are back to ‘one mic inside a margarine tub’ for Primal Scream.

Unless you’re a Spiritualized completist, leave this on the shelf and donate a tenner straight to this worthwhile cause instead.
