Before Saint Bob there was his band The Boomtown Rats, a bunch of Springsteen- loving droogs from Dublin who cranked up their music just enough to get lumped in with the punk scene.
The biggest-selling group of that period, the Rats were certainly better than anyone gives them credit for these days. This live show while at their commercial peak captures Geldof at his most Jaggeresque and the band bashing out their hits in a typically gonzoid late-70s style.
You’ll be shocked by how many of these tunes you not only remember, but actually like, and Geldof’s abrasive charm is as roguishly loveable as ever.
