'Truth'

(Point Music 100781 ***** The prolific Jeff Scott Soto was last believed to be in Las Vegas, fronting a '70s covers band called Boogie Nights and seemingly having given up on hard rock. Now, Soto has resurrected Talisman, a band laid to rest prematurely, it now seems in 1996 with a 'Best Of' collection. Comprising vocalist Soto, bassist and long-time buddy Marcel Jacob, guitarist Pontus Norgren and drummer Jamie Borger,Talisman open in fine style with a stirring re-make of Queen's 'Let Me Entertain You'one of three covers on the album. Long-time fans might recall the fantastically metallised version of Seal's 'Crazy' on 1995's 'Life Here, the quartet bravely attempt Prince &The Revolution's 'Darling Nikki' and offer a stunning interpretation of Madonna's 'Frozen:

Yet this should take nothing away from the original songs, each one lovingly crafted and replete with gnawing fretwork.'In The End;'Here 2Day Gone 2Day' and 'Angel/Devil; are superb, with Soto particularly outstanding on the poignant'The Man I'll Never Be:
