DIO: ONE YEAR ON
From page 53 of Classic Rock Magazine June 2011
Tribute band and album coming soon.
When Ronnie James Dio died last year, he left behind a huge musical legacy. The singer’s wife, Wendy, is putting together a tribute album, rumoured to feature Rob Halford, Dave Grohl, Alice Cooper and others covering songs by Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Elf and Ronnie’s solo band.
Additionally, several of Ronnie’s former bandmates have put together a tribute band, Dio Disciples. Bassist Rudy Sarzo, guitarist Craig Goldy, drummer Simon Wright and keyboard player Scott Warren will be joined by singers Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens and Toby Jepson for gigs this year, including Download. Proceeds from the tour and the album will go to the cancer charity Stand Up & Shout.
“Every day there’s more money coming in,” says Wendy. “Which means that we can continue to help those suffering from this hideous disease.”
