OKAY, GUESS WHO: “I’M 51, A SINGLE mother with two children, ages 11 and four. I’m more than 100 pounds over my ideal weight, and I have some orthopedic things that are starting to happen. My knees hurt, and when I stand up for any period of time my back aches...” No, it’s not Surf Head, wise-ass. It is a rock star, however, namely Ann Wilson of Heart. This isn’t going to be a piss-take piece though. Instead Surf Head is acclaiming a rare slice of on-the-nail honesty from someone in an imageobsessed business. Wilson has recently had surgery to put a ‘lap-band’ around her stomach, and the success of the op and her subsequent diet are expounded upon here (www.spotlighthealth.com/morbid_ obesity/anns_story/anns_story.html). More pleasingly, Wilson’s voice sounds like it’s still in great shape. Heart release ‘Alive In Seattle’, a double album that features four new songs, next month. Ann and sister Nancy Wilson are also working on a new studio record, due next year. More on all matters Heart at www. annandnancy.com
