Kick
From page 70 of Classic Rock Magazine July 1999
'Consider This (Beast BTDCD2) ***** The second release on Iron Maiden's Steve Harris' Beast Records label comes from British quintet Kick. Some might recall seeing the South London mob on tour with Hard Rain in the past couple of months. Others might remember Kick members MikeyJ and his brother Chris Jones previously touting their wares with their bands XL and Freefall.
Kick seem to be intent on cornering the melodic pop-rock market following the demise of Gun. And the potential is certainly there if the title track'Another Crazy Summer Night' and the opening 'Up Close And Personal' are anything to go by.'Let's Make Love Tonight' is also particularly outstanding, being the most atmospheric number on offer. Sadly, the album reflects the fact that Kick still have a way to go before they can record an album overflowing with songs of a similar quality. The other tracks here just don't come close, with 'Whispers In The Dark' being particularly poor.
Still, consider this.., the next record could be the making of them. Dave Reynolds
