ME AND MY FRIENDS

Namedropping with the stars
"Well, if you've got the money you can afford anybody!" laughs Crow of the dazzling list of special guests and friends who lined up to play on her current album,'The Globe Sessions: "Actually, they are all people I know, people I have relationships with.Them all being involved made it really fun to record.Wendy Melvoin [of Prince's Revolution and Wendy & Lisa] was definitely the right person to play the funky rhythm stuff that I needed on there. Bobby [Keys of Rolling Stones fame] came in because I really wanted a sax solo on 'There Goes The Neighborhood:As soon as you hear him you know who it is. He actually turned that song into something else, it now sounds like a Stones track. I've known Bobby for years.
"Lisa Germano [formerly of John Mellencamp's band] is someone else I like having around, she's a great violinist.Tim Smith [Jellyfish, Umajets] was suggested to me by Johnny Colt, who used to be in The Black Crowes. I needed a live bassist and got him; he also plays guitar really well, which frees me up to play bass live myself. And I brought in Benmont Tench [Tom Petty's Heartbreakers] even though I like to play keyboards as my main instrument. But it's really good sometimes to have
someone come in and just
blow your mind."
