Festival 2005

Geffen

For the faithful only.

As a record of The Cure’s 2005 European festival tour, this disappoints on several counts. The

picture quality is often dreadful, the consequence of patching together footage shot by fans, crew and big-screen cameras. The sound, however, is great, and diehards may treasure the instrumental improvisation, the long, jagged, blues-based opening to If Only We Could Sleep Tonight and the almost endless, screamingly intense introduction to The Kiss . While the more concise Never Enough , Just Like Heaven and Inbetween Days might better serve the casual admirer, the band reject the opportunities of DVD: there’s no documentary aspect, no onscreen information, no extras, no speaking and no personality. Nice lights, though.
