Welcome To The
Neighbourhood
(Roadrunner) So much has been written about Iowa’s favourite trailer trash, so intense has the hype been for the past four years, that it’s easy to forget the fact that, when the boiler-suited ones first descended upon us at the tail end of the 90s, they were a much-needed breath of toxic air.
Brutal riffing and some of the best drumming heard for many a year impressed everyone from Slayer’s Kerry King to Björk, and Welcome To Our Neighbourhood is a reminder of those early days.
The excellent and undeniably nasty ‘Spit It Out’ video, based on The Shining movie, is here in all its uncut glory, plus there’s some great live footage and snippets of interviews with the band (though, whatever the benefits of the ugly masks when on stage, the band do look silly when reflecting on the trials of growing up).
The running time is short, but then that’s reflected in the bargain price.
One for the maggots. Or any other species of larva, come to mention it.
