SPOCK’S BEARD Gluttons For Punishment

Inside Out
Progtastic double live album recorded in Europe.
That Spock’s Beard are still intact after Neal Morse jumped ship in
2002 is in itself a triumph. Losing their dominant writer would have finished off most bands. But Spock’s Beard have re-grouped, releasing two decent albums in Feel Euphoria and this year’s Octane , with drummer Nick D’Virgilio handling lead vocals.
Gluttons For Punishment reveals that while the Beard may not be thriving, they are alive, kicking and far from wholly reliant on material culled from the six Morse era albums. The vast majority of this double CD showcases post Morse material, most notably Octane ’s magnificent epic A Flash Before My Eyes , and reveals D’Virgilio as a more versatile and soulful singer than his predecessor.
