Frontiers

Bassist-for-hire proves his mettle.

Not to be confused with Mark ‘The Animal’ Mendoza of Dictators/Twisted Sister, fellow bassist Marco Mendoza has also served time with the reunited Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Ted Nugent, Ozzy Osbourne and (ulp!) The Cranberries among others. As we realised when he sang Hey Baby with Nugent’s band, Marco has quite a voice, but little prepares the listener for the quality of this solo debut.

Although accompanied by bandmates past and present – including Uncle Ted, Steve Lukather and Tommy Aldridge – the Mexican bypasses Frontiers’ escalating tendency to propel sidemen of tepid personal ability into the limelight, their inadequacies masked by an array of special guests. As a writer, player and singer of hummable hard rock, Mendoza has got what it takes.
