Livin’ On A Dream
Frontiers
It all goes terribly flat for the fizzy drinks girl.
It’s been almost 20 years since Robin Beck topped the British charts with The First Time , a song formulated around a Coca-Cola advertising campaign. Interrupting what looked like a promising career for motherhood, Beck then married House Of Lords singer James Christian. Sadly, despite replacing the conveyor-beltstyled producer Fabrizio V. Zee Grossi with hubby James, the Heart-esque Livin’ On A Dream represents only a marginal improvement upon 2005’s sappy-to-the-point-of-barfdom Do You Miss Me .
Way too formulaic and repetitive, Desmond Child’s trademark of the chuggingly riffed chorus is recycled for the umpteenth time on tracks such as Show Me The Way . The Pat Benatar-ish title track, which samples Beck’s introduction on Top Of The Pops , provides a rare moment of inspiration.
