WELL, WELL, WELL. IT SEEMS THAT OF THOSE WHO HAVE EXPRESSED an opinion, the majority of Classic Rock readers agree with our, er, less than favourable review of Metallica’s new album ‘St. Anger’. But, as ever, we wanted to get to the heart of the matter. Just what is going on with the Bay Area band? Where are they really at? Why did they all head off to therapy? Just what was going wrong for the band? In order to get to the heart of the matter, we’ve delved deep, and Classic Rock has tracked down the main players in this most exciting of stories: we spoke to the band and persuaded Messrs Hetfield, Hammett and Ulrich to open up and ‘share’ their innermost thoughts. But that’s not all. We also tracked down the band’s ‘performance coach’ Phil Towle and their long-time producer and confidante Bob Rock.
