'Rock Of Ageists'
(Zoom Club Advance CD)
It's been 15-plus years since singer/ songwriter/guitarist Robin George burst onto the scene with his 'Dangerous Music' debut, and the album's pulsating single, 'Heartlinel A breathless combination of cutting edge sampled keyboard sounds and crunching riffs, 'Heartline' came out on a number of occasions yet failed to crack the charts, and when George's label Bronze Records folded he opted to form the quite dreadful Notorious with ex-Diamond Head singer Sean Harris.
Aside from the odd production credit and a low-key album with Life, little has been heard of Robin since. Yet last year's re-issue of 'Dangerous Music' caused ripples on the pond, and '...Ageists' now plunges Excalibur-like from the murky depths. George's writing and vocal styles are easily recognised, and the album includes 'Crying Diamonds', a song George wrote late on with Phil Lynott. The lyrics 'Secret handshake, old school tie brigade/Behind the scenery, I've read the book/I saw the film, but now I see reality' may even reflect the way the industry slammed the door so prematurely shut on Lynott's career. Fascinating stuff.
