GUNS N’ ROSES singer AXL ROSE is said to be considering legal action against Geffen Records for their plans to release a new ‘greatest hits’ collection on April 11... TWISTED SISTER, who are re-recording their ‘Stay Hungry’ album on its 20th anniversary, are unlikely to engage in serious bouts of touring this summer. Singer DEE SNIDER recently stated: “I’m not seeing the offers that we need”.

Meanwhile, Snider, LEMMY and STYX’s TOMMY SHAW have recorded tracks for a new KISS tribute album. Other contributors to the project, to be titled ‘Spin The Bottle’, include KIP WINGER, DOUG PINNICK of KING’S X, HELMET’s PAGE HAMILTON, PHIL LEWIS of LA GUNS and SLAUGHTER’s MARK SLAUGHTER... Sources close to JOE LYNN TURNER have denied reports that he is to participate in a RAINBOW reunion. The singer has been in contact again with guitarist RITCHIE BLACKMORE, but only with a view to making a guest appearing on the next BLACKMORE’S NIGHT album...

HAWKWIND, FOGHAT and CONEY HATCH have been added to the bill of this year’s Sweden Rock Festival, joining EUROPE, UFO and JUDAS PRIEST, among many others...

ICED EARTH have postponed their European tour – which included London Astoria on March 21 – due to guitarist JON SCHAFFER undergoing a back operation... LIVING LOUD is the name finally chosen by the group made up of singer JIMMY BARNES, DEEP PURPLE guitarist STEVE MORSE and keyboard player DON AIREY, former OZZY OSBOURNE bassist BOB DAISLEY and URIAH HEEP drummer LEE KERSLAKE. The quintet have previously operated as both THE MEEK and THE CUT... Finnish band NIGHTWISH will call their new album ‘Once’. It will be released through Nuclear Blast in June... Former EVANESCENCE guitarist BEN MOODY returned to the band to collect awards for Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance at this year’s Grammy awards. Co-founder Moody walked out on the group during their last European tour and has been replaced by ex- COLD man TERRY BALSAMO.

Explaining his departure for the first time, Ben said: “I just heard a voice that said you’ve got to leave”... TODD RUNDGREN issues his first album of all-new music for Sanctuary on April 5.

‘Liars’ is the eighteenth solo record of his career... THE PIXIES have reunited their original line- up of vocalist/guitarist FRANK BLACK, guitarist JOEY SANTIAGO, bassist KIM DEAL and drummer DAVID LOVERING, and will play this summer’s T In The Park festival. The band’s four shows at London’s Brixton Academy in June sold out within hours of being announced...

SKID ROW have confirmed TIM DiDURO as replacement for departed drummer PHIL VARONE.... VENOM have finally begun work on a follow-up to their last studio album, 2000’s ‘Resurrection’. Band leader CRONOS is working on songs with his younger brother ANTTON in place of ABADDON on drums... DOKKEN’s new album ‘Hell To Pay’ will be released in late April... U2 guitarist THE EDGE has interrupted the recording of the band’s new album to lay down the theme song for a new TV series of BATMAN set to debut in America towards the end of the year... PATTI SMITH’s next album will be called ‘Trampin’...

The TOWER RECORDS chain has declared itself bankrupt, but will continue to trade during a period of restructuring... Former BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST member WOOLLY WOLSTENHOLME releases a new album, ‘One Drop In A Dry World’, via Eclectic Discs on April 26. He also plays five UK dates in May (see On The Road)...

Long defunct London-based metal band CHARIOT have their two albums (1984’s ‘The Warrior’ and 1986’s ‘Burning Ambition’) reissued through Majestic Rock Records this month. The same label has also repackaged 1985’s ‘Rough Justice’, the only album by the UK’s TYTAN, and a new album from British hard rockers KICK. The latter is called ‘New Horizon’ and is now available in regular and limited-edition digipack formats... WILCO are in London mixing their new album.

Titled ‘A Ghost Is Born’, it’s due in June... Ex-QUIET RIOT/OZZY OSBOURNE/WHITESNAKE bassist RUDY SARZO has joined YNGWIE MALMSTEEN’s latest band, which still includes former RAINBOW vocalist DOUGIE WHITE... IRON MAIDEN release their new single ‘No More Lies’ on March 29, it also features live tracks from their recent world tour... Classic Rock is sad to report that ex-BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST drummer MEL PRITCHARD has been found dead at his Oldham home. He died of a heart attack, aged 56.

Ex-STEELY DAN and DOOBIE BROTHERS saxophonist CORNELIUS BUMPUS has also died of a heart attack, as has BOB MAYO, a member of PETER FRAMPTON’s touring band, just days after Framp’s London show... LES GRAY, lead singer of MUD, has also died after two suspected heart attacks. He was 57..
